  Question from S. Smith

Is it legal for an Auction Co.to charge a buyers premium?See details.?

There is a new fad out at Public Auctions to charge a buyers premium. The highest that I know of is 10%-22%. This is above what you bid and the taxes. On top of this, they are charging tax on the 10% premium as well,so if you get an item for $60.00,you are going to pay that + 10% plus tax on the total. You are being charged a penalty for doing bussiness with these people, and they are the ones charging the penalty.

The "FENTON Brothers"

Frank and John

Who founded the Fenton Art Glass Company in 1906 in Martin's Ferry, Ohio. The venture, at first only decorating shop, began operations in July of 1905.

The Brothers constructed their first factory by 1907. In Williamstown, West Virginia.

The Fenton Company produced over one hundred thirty patterns of carnival glass. They also made custard, chocolate, opalescent, and strech glass. This company was known for it's various colors of glass.

In 1925 they made a line of "Handmade" items.

Since 1970 the logo Fenton has been stamped in to the glass.

 Opalescent Glass

First made in England in 1870, opalescent glass became popular in America around the turn of the centry. Its name comes from the milky-white opalescent trim the defines the lines of the pattern. It was produced in table sets, novelties, toothpick holders, vases and lamps. Note that American-made sugar bowls have lids.
